BAJRANG PUNIA BECOMES FIRST INDIAN WRESTLER TO CLAIM TOP SPOT IN 65-KG FREESTYLE CATEGORY

Star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia today touched a new high in his career by achieving the number one rank in the world in the 65kg category. The 24-year-old Bajrang was placed atop the ranking table with 96 points in the United World Wrestling (UWW) list. United World Wrestling is the international governing body for the sport of amateur wrestling. Its duties include overseeing wrestling at the Olympics.  Bajrang has won five medals this season, including Common Wealth Games and the Asian Games gold and a silver at the World Championship in Budapest.  Bajrang was also the only Indian grappler to be given a seeding at the Budapest World Championship.

  • World Wrestling Head Institute United World Wrestling (UWW) has released its latest ranking, in which Bajrang Poonia got first place.
  • Prior to this, Bajrang was third in this ranking, but now he has scored 96 points and he has secured top position.
  • Alexandra Enrique Waldes Toubier of Cuba is second in ranking with 66 Russia's wrestler Ahmed Chakev has been ranked third with 62 points.

Bajrang Poonia is India's only wrestler, who is included in the top-10 in his weightlifting world rankings.
