SIX PROFESSORS WIN INFOSYS PRIZE 2018 FOR SCIENCE AND RESEARCH

Six eminent professors have been awarded the Infosys Prize 2018 across different categories of science and research, the software major’s science foundation announced on 13th Nov 2018.

The list of winners are –

  • Navakanta Bhat (Engineering and Computer Science):Navakanta Bhat, who is a Professor at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore selected under Engineering and Computer Science Category. He was selected for his work on the design of novel biosensors based on his research in biochemistry and gaseous sensors that push the performance limits of existing metal-oxide sensors.
  • Kavita Singh (Humanities):Kavita Singh, who is faculty Dean at School of Arts & Aesthetics in Jawaharlal Nehru University, received the award for her illuminating study of Mughal, Rajput and Deccan art under the category of humanities.
  • Roop Malik (Life Sciences):Working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Biological Sciences in Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Roop Mallik received the award under Life Sciences category. He was selected for the award for his work on molecular motor proteins, which are crucial for the functioning of living cells.
  • Nalini Anantraman (mathematics):Nalini Anantharaman is Professor and Chairman of Mathematics at Institute for Advanced Study faculty in the University of Strasbourg, France. She was awarded the prize for her work related to quantum chaos under the category of Mathematical Sciences.
  • K. Satish (Physical Sciences):SK Satheesh is Professor at Centre for Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences in IISc Bangalore. He was selected for the award for his pioneering work in the field of climate change under the category of Physical Sciences.
  • Sandhil Mullanathan (Social Sciences):Sendhil Mullainathan, who is a Professor at the University of Chicago in the US, was selected for the award under the category of Social Sciences. He made a path-breaking contribution in the field of behavioral economics.

Infosys Award

  • Infosys Awards are annual award.
  • The award is given by the Infosys Science Foundation.
  • This award is given in the field of Biological Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science, Social Science, Physical Science and Humanities.
  • Each winner gets gold medal, a citation certificate and a million dollars reward.
