The United Nations Children’s Fund — India (UNICEF—India) has appointed Asian Games gold-medallist sprinter Hima Das as the country’s first ever youth ambassador.The name of the woman athlete from Assam was announced by the world organization in a tweet coinciding with the Children’s Day celebrated on November 14.“I’m honored to be chosen as Unicef India’s Youth Ambassador, and I hope I will be able to inspire more children to follow their dreams,” Ms. Das responded.

Hima Das

• Hima Das is the daughter of a farmer from the village of Dhing in Assam's Nagaon district.
• Hima Das made history by becoming India's first ever track and field gold medallist at the      IAAF World Championships
• She also clinched a gold medal in Women's 4 x 400 m Relay event at the 2018 Asian Games

She had also won a silver medal in Women's 400m Race event.
