Global Cooling Innovation Summit and the launch of the Global Cooling Prize
Nov. 11, 2018

The Global Cooling Prize — established by a global coalition led by Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), Conservation X Labs, Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), and CEPT University and supported by Mission Innovation and the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, is rallying innovators across the globe to drive a technology revolution to provide cooling to all, without warming the planet.

The summit will also see the launch of the Global Cooling Prize—an innovation challenge that aims to spur development of a residential cooling solution that has at least five times (5x) less climate impact than today’s standard products. The winning technology could prevent up to 100 gigatons (GT) of CO2-equivalent (C02e) emissions by 2050, and put the world on a pathway to mitigate 1°C of global warming by 2100, all while enhancing living standards for people in developing countries around the globe.

Key facts:

  • This conference will be jointly organized by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, with the support of Rocky Mountain Institute, Alliance for the Energy Efficiency Economy (AEE), Conservation X Labs and CEPT University.
  • During this summit, the 'Global Cooling Award' will also be inaugurated, which is a challenge related to mission innovation and aims at accelerating the development of residential cooling (cooling) solutions, which is compared to existing standard solutions on climate.
  • The 'Global Cooling Award' is a competition for global reach and participation, which aims to achieve significant success in the development of cooling technologies.
  • The purpose of this competition is to develop such a cooling technology, which will require very little energy to be operational, in which refrigerants will be used and ozone will not decay and there will be less fear of global warming.
  • Global Cold Rolling Awards and Innovation Summit will be attended by prominent speakers from around the world, including explorers, philanthropists, venture capitalists and other industrialists. During this two-day conference, all these celebrities will unite and participate in various discussions.
  • Participants of the summit will share their views on finding a solution to the cooling challenge, as well as discussions on current public policy resources available in the meantime.
