AMNESTY STRIPS AUNG SAN SUU KYI OF HIGHEST HONOR

Amnesty International has withdrawn a prestigious human rights award from Myanmar Councillor Aung San Suu Kyi, accusing her of perpetuating human rights abuses by not speaking out about violence against the Rohingya Muslim minority. The international human rights group named Suu Kyi as its 2009 Ambassador of Conscience Award recipient when she was still under house arrest for her opposition to Myanmar's oppressive military junta.

  • Last month, between millions of Rohingya Muslims, between Bangladesh and Myanm were agreed on the return of the country in November.
  • The Rohingya refugees migrated to Bangladesh after the operation of the Myanmar army and left the country.
  • Under the agreement, 2,000 Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar will go to Myanmar in the first group.
  • After this the second group will be off.
  • Recently the Parliament of Canada passed the resolution of withdrawing honorary citizenship given to Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
  • Prior to Aung San from the "Freedom of Oxford" honor was also withdrawn.
  • The Oxford City Council awarded the "Freedom of Oxford" award in 1997 for a long struggle for democracy, the highest leader in Myanmar.
